Checked early, clearly explained.
Some renovations and new buildings may qualify for grants, subsidised loans or tax relief. The trade name alone is not decisive: the measure, building and personal requirements matter.

Improve the building envelope’s energy performance.
Insulation, suitable windows and external doors may qualify for BEG funding. Eligibility depends on the specific construction.
- Suitable for
- Exterior renovation, roof or ceiling insulation and energy-related renovation of older buildings.
- Requirements
- An existing building, minimum technical requirements and an energy efficiency expert.
- Clarify early
- Coordinate the application and the supply or works contract containing the funding condition correctly before implementation. A normal façade repaint alone is not enough.

Renovate the whole house for better energy performance.
KfW 261 supports renovation to an eligible Effizienzhaus standard. A coherent overall concept is essential.
- Suitable for
- Comprehensive renovation of an older building with a defined energy performance target.
- Requirements
- An energy efficiency expert, the required evidence and an application through the financing partner.
- Clarify early
- Agree financing and contractual conditions before starting. Funding depends on the standard and the applicable requirements.

Make your home more accessible.
KfW 159 may finance suitable alterations that reduce barriers, for example in bathrooms, doors or access routes.
- Suitable for
- Bathroom fit-out and room layout changes that meet the minimum technical requirements.
- Requirements
- Specific dimensions and suitable execution; simply replacing tiles is not enough.
- Current status
- Grant 455-B is closed to new applications. Loans and grants are different funding routes.

Finance modernisation in NRW.
NRW.BANK.Gebäudesanierung offers a possible financing route for suitable modernisation of an owner-occupied home in NRW.
- Suitable for
- Energy efficiency, reducing barriers, structural defects and other defined funding purposes, among others.
- Requirements
- Owner occupation, secured financing and compliance with the programme rules.
- Clarify early
- Check with your bank before the project starts. Decoration alone does not automatically fulfil a funding purpose.

Plan the funding standard from the outset.
KfW 297/298 and, where applicable, family programme 300 may be options for suitable new buildings.
- Suitable for
- A turnkey partner solution with an agreed eligible energy standard.
- Requirements
- Specialist planning, technical evidence and certification where required. Programme 300 also has family and income requirements.
- Clarify early
- Check financing and evidence before signing the contract and starting construction. Calling a project turnkey is not a funding requirement.

Buy and renovate an older house.
KfW 308 “Jung kauft Alt” is aimed at eligible families purchasing certain existing properties with poor energy efficiency.
- Suitable for
- A planned purchase followed by the required energy renovation.
- Distinction
- The loan finances the purchase, not renovation costs. It is not a general renovation loan for a home you already own.
- Clarify early
- Check the family, income, building and renovation conditions before buying.

Labour costs or energy improvements.
§ 35a and § 35c EStG provide different tax routes. What matters is whether the actual requirements are met.
- § 35a
- Eligible craft services in an existing household: have labour costs shown separately and retain the invoice and proof of non-cash payment.
- § 35c
- Suitable energy improvements to an older owner-occupied building require technical compliance and a specialist contractor’s certificate.
- No double counting
- Do not simply claim several forms of support for the same measure. Have combinations and your individual tax position checked professionally.

What we clarify together.
We describe the requested building work and its scope. Individual funding, financing or tax assessment is provided by the responsible adviser or funding body.
- No automatic funding
- Normal flooring installation, painting or new connection joints do not qualify for energy funding simply because they are called renovation.
- No unrestricted addition
- Grants, loans and tax relief cannot simply be added together. Combination rules must be checked for the individual measure.
- Regional contact
- The housing funding office at Rhein-Sieg-Kreis is also a contact for state housing support and suitable modernisation projects.
